Abstract

Limited variability is available in European carrots. Keeping this in view, thirty-nine genotypes of European carrots introduced from HRI, Wellesbourne (UK) were evaluated in RBD with three replications. Highly significant differences were observed for all the traits under study. High values of coefficients of variability, heritability and genetic gain for gross root yield, net root yield and average root weight suggested the effectiveness of straight selection for these traits. Net root yield, gross root yield, crown diameter and core diameter were significantly correlated with all the traits except average root weight. Root diameter recorded maximum direct and indirect contributions towards net root yield followed by gross root yield.
