Comparative therapeutic efficacy of tetracycline hydrochloride and metronidazole plus furazolidone against Balantidium coli infection in buffalo calves

Comparative therapeutic efficacy of tetracycline hydrochloride (Tetrakal Forte) bolus and metronidazole plus furazolidone (Fazole) bolus was studied in buffalo calves naturally infected with Balantidium coli on the basis of clinico-parasitological cure. In both the treatment groups, 100% elimination of B. coli cysts/trophozoites was recorded on 3^rd day of treatment. Before treatment, all the buffalo calves had diarrhoea. On 3^rd day of treatment, 11 out of 12 cases and on 7^th day, all the cases in both the treatment groups showed normal faecal consistency.
