Abstract

Hydro-distilled extracts of three medicinal plants Artemisia annua, A. vulgaris and Ocimum kilimandscharicum and oil seeds of Pongamia glabra were tested for their In vitro efficacy against Boophilus microplus. Ocimum kilimandscharicum exhibited highest efficacy (98.34%) followed by P. glabra (96.67%), A. annua (95.00%) and A. vulgaris (93.34%). Following treatment, the weight of egg mass and percent hatchability was also severely affected. Though preliminary investigations are encouraging, further studies are required to identify the active components of these plants responsible for acaricidal action.
