Abstract

Sharing of antigens of Fasciola gigantica, Paramphistomum epiclitum and Gigantocotyle explanatum of buffalo origin was studied using double immuno-diffusion (DID), sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and immunoblotting. DID showed two and one precipitation lines in F. gigantica and P. epiclitum, respectively against anti-F. gigantica rabbit hyperimmune sera. SDS-PAGE revealed three common polypeptides viz. 97, 41, and 12 kDa and 9 polypeptides viz. 97, 75, 69, 59, 46.5, 41, 39.5, 29 and 12 kDa molecular weight between P. epiclitum and F. gigantica. One common immunoreactive protein was also detected between F. gigantica and P. epiclitum in immunoblotting with F. gigantica experimentally infected buffalo calf serum.
