Prevalence of porcine gastrointestinal parasites in indigenous management systems of Aizawl district of Mizoram has been studied between June 2004 to May, 2005. Out of 280 faecal samples from private farms screened for presence of parasitic ova and 210 carcasses examined at abattoir for parasites and cysts, 105 faecal samples (37.5%) were positive for different helminth ova. Whereas, 41 (19.52%) pig carcasses showed the presence of parasites. The infection was prevalent throughout the year with highest incidence of (44.44%) post-monsoon season. Ascaris showed highest prevalence in animals below 6 months of age group. The other parasites recorded were viz. Strongyloides ransomi, Oesophagostomum spp., Ascarops strongylina, Trichuris suis, Physocephalus sexalatus and Artyfechinostomum surfurtyfex. No adult cestode or metacestode could be recorded.
