Abstract

The level of various antioxidant enzymes like superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase and glutathione S-transfrase (GST) were investigated in the cytosolic extracts of male and female Haemonchus contortus to provide some basic information related to survival of the parasite in the host body against oxidative stress. The activities of SOD, GST and catalase were found higher in male than female parasite. Appreciable amount of SOD, catalase and GST in this parasite indicate the presence of complete defence system against host produced Raective oxygen species (ROS) and in the protection of membrane damage induced by lipid peroxidation products.
