Prevalence of schistosomosis in sheep in Karnataka
Abstract
Prevalence of schistosomosis was assessed in 650 sheep in 15 districts of Karnataka following alkaline digestion, direct faecal examination, formal-ether and miracidia hatching methods. Out of 650 faecal samples, 44 samples (6.76%) were positive for Schistosoma indicum and S. spindale in 93.18% and 6.82% of cases examined, respectively. Miracidial hatching test was superior than other tests employed. The highest percentage of positive cases was recorded from the sheep flocks of Raichur district.
