Abstract

Prevalence of Taenia solium infection in human beings was studied in Nagaon, Morigaon and Karbi Anglong districts of Assam from March 2002 to February 2003. Coprological examination of a total 1036 stool samples revealed prevalence of T. solium infection in 119 (11,48%) samples. The highest (16.00%) and lowest (8.93%) infection was found in Karbi Anglong and Nagaon districts respectively. Overall, sex-wise prevalence of T. solium infection in male and female was 11.32 and 11.65%, respectively. Age-wise revalence drevealed highest (14.79%) infection in the age group of 31–45 years and lowest (8.35%) in 46–60 years of age. It was assumed that the infection was obtained at early age of life that persisted for a longer period.
