Abstract

Twelve uncastrated healthy black Bengal goats, 12 month old and of almost similar body weights were divided into two groups (infected and non-infected control) of six animals each. In infected bucks mean body weight decreased significantly (P<0.05) 12 weeks post infection (7.83±0.39 kg vs the pre inoculation weight of (8.66±0.49 kg). During the experimental period infected animals exhibited intermittent fever and severe anaemia. Histopathological changes revealed emphysema and atelectasis of alveoi in lungs, necrosis of hepatocytes and swollen Kupffer cell in liver necrosis of renal tubules and presence of casts in kidney, blocked and necrosed haemosideriosis hyperplastic changes of white pulp in splean, skeletal muscles, intramuscular edema, degeneration of muscle fibers with loss of striation, brain oedema and atrophy of thyroid follicles.
