Evaluation of Paraseb BV - an enzyme based anthelmintic against Fasciola gigantica infection in cattle and buffaloes
Abstract
Different dose rates of Paraseb BV, 25 g, 12.50 g, 35 g twice a day (B.I.D.) for 2 days and 50 g twice a day for one day in cattle and 50 g twice a day for two days in buffaloes were evaluated against naturally acquired infection of Fasciola gigantica. Paraseb BV @ 25 g (B.I.D. × 2 days) was found 100% effective in reducing the eggs per gram of faeces (EPG) on 7, 21 and 28 days post treatment (DPT) while 35 g (B.I.D. × 2 days) and 50 g (B.I.D. × 1 day) on 14 and 28 DPT, respectively. However, a dose rate of 12.50 g (B.I.D. × 1 day) on 14 and 28 DPT, respectively. However, a dose rate of 12.50 g (B.I.D. × 2 days) exhibited an efficacy of 94.4% on 7 DPT. Buffaloes treated with Paraseb BV (50 g B.I.D. × 2 days) showed cent percent reduction in EPG on 21 and 28 DPT.
