Ten goats in a herd of 25 were presented for treatment with a complaint of multiple swellings on neck, prescapular region, abdomen and on limbs. The clinical, radiological and ultrasound examination revealed the presence of multiple cysts in their body. Surgical treatment was adopted in three animals and the cysts were excised. Remaining animals were disposed off as unfit for human consumption. Gross and microscopic examination confirmed the outbreak due to Coenurus gaigeri infection. The feasibility of surgical treatment with such an infestation throughout the body and public health hazards that may result out of consumption of such meat necessitate proper preventive measures than treatment.
