Abstract

Six cases of dirofilariosis (Dirofilaria immitis) in dogs were clinically confirmed on the basis of symptoms, presence of microfilaria in blood followed by detection of antigen of adults heartworm in blood serum using Solo Step® CH kit. Clinically, respiratory distress, increase in heart rate and expanded rib cage were noticed. Haematological study revealed lower haemoglobin percentage (10.58±0.48 gm%), RBC (5.10±0.20 X 106 Cells/μl), PCV (40.67±1.12%) and increase in WBC (18.23±0.50 X 103 Cells/μl). Biochemical studies of serum samples showed increase in serum glutammate oxaloacetate transaminase (49.38±2.00), serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase (58.59±1.44), phosphorus (4.04±0.75) and chloride (164.90±9.16) contents.
