Abstract

Examination of 200 faecal samples and 88 intestinal contents revealed 55.5% and 46.59% prevalence of Fasciolopsis buski in desi pigs of Patna, respectively. Peak prevalence of infection was recorded during monsoon, post-monsoon and winter months (55–65%). Age-wise prevalence revealed highest (67.39%) infection in pigs over one year age and lowest (21.87%) in 0–6 months of age. Highest degree of parasite burden (56.66–58.90%) was recorded in pigs managed in free range system in comparison to pigs reared under semi-intensive system (25.00–46.29%).
