Abstract

An epidemiological study of monieziosis in local goats of Assam in respect of seasons revealed highest incidence in monsoon (47.27%) followed by post monsoon (31.32%), pre-monsoon (27.88%) and winter season (15.76%). On the basis of faecal examination it was observed that the local goats released significantly higher (p<0.01) number of eggs of Moniezia species in monsoon season (mean EPG 386.36±130.11) and lowest faecal egg counts during winter season (mean EPG 40.00±18.23). The highest faecal egg counts were recorded in the month of June with the overall mean EPG of 623.64±219.69 and lowest in the month of December with overall mean EPG of 29.09±14.83. The overall incidence of monieziosis was highest in the month of June (54.55%) and lowest in the month of December (10.91%). There was significantly higher out put of Moniezia species eggs in kids as compared to adult goats.
