Abstract

The present study deals with the comparative efficacy of diethyl carbamazine (DEC), tetramisole and levamisole on the enzyme activities of adult Setaria cervi. The drugs were administered orally to rabbits, intraperitoneally infected with bovine filariid, Setaria cervi. Histochemical localization revealed the decreased activity of glucose-6-phosphatase, succinate dehydrogenase and adenosine triphosphatase in the drug treated worms. Tetramisole and levamisole were relatively more effective than DEC. A possible role of these enzymes in the energy supply and survival of the worm has been briefly discussed.
