Abstract

This study was undertaken to determine the humoral immune response in buffalo calves following experimental infection with Paramphistomum epiclitum. An infective dose of 25,000 metacercariae was used for setting up infection. Sera samples were collected weekly starting from day zero to week 10 post infection (PI). Indirect-ELISA was optimized using somatic antigen of P. epiclitum. Sera samples of both infected and control groups of buffalo calves were tested for humoral immune responses with ELISA. A distinct antibody response was observed from 2nd to 4th weeks post infection. The IgG levels in infected group of buffalo calves declined after week 4th post infection but it was higher in comparison to negative control group of animals till the termination of experiment.
