Prevalence of parasitic disease of liver in sheep and goats in organised and unorganised slaughter houses in Jammu
Abstract
The study was conducted in government recognized and unorganised slaughter houses of sheep and goats in Jammu region to record the prevalence of parasitic diseases of liver from the month of July 2011 to June 2012. A total of 400 liver samples of sheep and goats were collected from these slaughter houses for determining the prevalence of parasitic diseases. The prevalence of liver hydatidosis, hepatic cysticercosa, fasciolosis and dicrocoeliosis were found to be 20.45%, 3.63%, 4.54% and 3.63% in sheep and 17.77%, 7.77%, 3.88% and 3.33% in goats, respectively. Sheep were found to be more infected as compare to the goats. Female sheep (39.23%) and female goats (39.62%) were more infected as compared to the male sheep (22.22%) and male goats (22.97%). Adult animals more than 13 month age were more infected with liver diseases as compared with the young animal of 6–12 month age.
