Abstract

Ectoparasites are one of the major constraint in profitable goat production in India. Several ectoparasiticides have been used against tick and lice infestation in goats with variable results. In the present trial, efficacy of three compounds viz. deltamethrin, flumethrin pour on and amitraz were evaluated against the lice and tick infestation of goats. Amitraz showed the highest efficacy as per TES (total efficacy score) of 60 followed by deltamethrin (53) and flumethrin pour-on preparation (49). Re-infestation period was recorded as 36.1±1.85 days, 38.1±1.66 and 49.7±1.807 days for deltamethrin, flumethrin and amitraz, respectively. The status of acaricide resistance in Rhiphicephalus sp. was also evaluated for all the three drugs using the Adult Immersion Test with Discriminating Dose (AITDD) but resistance could not be observed against any one of the acaricide used in the study.
