Abstract

The emergence of anthelmintic resistance worldwide has necessitated the search for alternatives to the currently used formulations. In the present study Prunus persica leaves extract, rich in tannins, inhibited the in vitro mobility of the progenetic metacercariae of Clinostomum complanatum in a concentration and time dependent manner, ultimately leading to the mortality of worms within 24 hours of treatment, clearly showing strong anthelmintic activity. However, further studies are required to identify and characterize the active component(s) of the Prunus persica leaves extract.
