Prevalence of porcine cysticercosis in Sivasagar district of Assam, India

Abstract

Age, sex and breed-wise prevalence of porcine cysticercosis in Sivasagar district of Assam was studied for a period of one year from April 2012 to May 2013. A total of 316 pig carcasses were examined in different market places of the three sub-divisions, out of which 4 carcass (1.27%) were found positive for porcine cysticercosis. Prevalence of Cysticercus cellulosae infection in male and female was found 1.38 and 1.81 percent, respectively. Breedwise prevalence was found more in crossbred (1.38%) than the local breed (1.26%).
