Abstract

Examination of 60 lungs of slaughtered pigs revealed 20% prevalence of lung worms (Metastrongylus elongatus). This is the first report of this parasite in pigs of this state. Peak incidence was observed in rainy season (25%), followed by winter (21.05%) and summer season (14.28%). The affected bronchi and bronchioles showed catarrhal and in some cases hemorrhagic exudation.
