Abstract

Epidemiology of paramphistomes in goats in and around Bhubaneswar, Odisha, was studied from March 2011 to February 2012. The overall infection rate was found to be 9% and 16.9% using dung and abattoir samples, respectively. Peak seasonal prevalence was recorded in rainy season followed by summer and least in winter (P<0.0005). The different species of paramphistomes commonly detected were Paramphistomum cervi, Gigantocotyle explanatum, Cotylophoron cotylophorum and Gastrothylax crumenifer. No significant influence of either age or sex of the animal upon the prevalence of the disease was observed (P>0.05).
