Incidence of myiasis in domestic animals in and around Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh*

Abstract

Myiasis in domestic animals was studied in nine selected places in and around Tirupati region of Andhra Pradesh. A total of 2674 animals with the history of wounds and skin lesions were examined. Among these, 1487 animals (55.61%) revealed myiasis, which had in 818 (55.01%), in 173 (11.63%) and in 496 (33.36%) animals. Out of 1512 cattle examined, 770 (50.93%)were positive for myiasis larvae with an incidence of C. bezziana as 80.38% and as 19.62%. Among 246 buffaloes examined, 111 (45.12%) were positive for myiasis larvae with an incidence of C. bezziana as 81.98% and as 18.02%. Out of 916 sheep examined, 606 (66.16%) were positive for myiasis larvae, with an incidence of as 81.35%, C. bezziana as 13.99% and as 4.66%.
