Abstract

Paramphistomosis is one of the most important parasitic diseases in sheep and causes severe production loss and mortality. Prevalence of paramphistomes in sheep slaughtered at Chennai, Tamil Nadu, was studied from September 2016 to February 2017. The overall prevalence of paramphistomes in sheep was 69.75%. The paramphistomes were identified as Cotylophoron cotylophorum, Paramphistomum cervi, Gastrothylax crumenifer and Fischoederius elongatus. Mixed infections of paramphistomes were found to be more (70.80% cent) than the single infection (29.20%).
