Helminthosis is a major constraint in economic livestock production. Mostly synthetic anthelmintics are being used to overcome this problem. Besides synthetic anthelmintics, some plants have shown variable anthelmintic properties. A herbal formulation containing crude aqueous extract of leaves of Azadirachta indica and Nicotiana tabacum, flowers of Calotropis procera and seeds of Trachyspermum ammi was prepared and given at 2, 3 and 4 g/kg BW orally to goats naturally infected with gastrointestinal nematodes. Efficacy was assessed on the basis of percentage reduction in EPG count. Percentage reduction in EPG count 30 days post treatment was 42, 52 and 70% respectively. Though it was less than that of fenbendazole treatment, improvement in some biochemical parameters indicated that there were no hepatotoxic effects.
