Myiasis in dogs in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh

Abstract

Myiasis caused by Chrysomya bezziana, is a very common condition in domestic animals and man. This paper describes myiasis in dogs from Mhow, Madhya Pradesh. Maggots were collected from the wounds of dogs (n=25) and on morphological examination, the larvae were identified as those of C. bezziana. Wounds were cleaned with turpentine oil and infected dogs were administered with ivermectin (@ 0.3 mg/kg b. w.) subcutaneously. Antiseptic dressings were performed and fly repellents were applied till complete wound healing and on an average 10 days were required for the complete healing.
