Abstract

Ceftiofur is a third-generation antimicrobial drug widely used in veterinary medicine. The present study was undertaken to investigate the pharmacokinetic study of ceftiofur after its intramuscular administration in Osmanabadi goats. The pharmacokinetic study of ceftiofur was planned in six months to one-year-old Osmanabadi goats. Six goats received ceftiofur sodium by intramuscular route (IM) at a 2.2 mg/kg body weight dose rate. Blood samples of the goats receiving ceftiofur sodium were collected at 0, 15, 30 minutes and 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, 24 and 48 hours after an intramuscular administration (IM). The concentration of ceftiofur in goat plasma was analyzed by LCMS. Pharmacokinetic parameters were calculated using PK Solver program by applying the two-compartmental model. After intramuscular administration (IM), the mean Cmax', AUC, Tmax', CL, t1/2 Vd and MRT of ceftiofur for intramuscular administration were 4.55 µg/ml, 27.08 µg/ml*h, 1.13 hrs, 0.09 L/h/kg, 11.93 hrs, 0.26 L/kg and 10.87 hrs respectively.
