Abstract

The aim of present study was to investigate the hepatorenal effect of turmeric nano-formulation in osteoporotic rats. Eighteen rats were randomly and equally divided into 3 groups I, II and III. Group I served as control group and in group II and III osteoporosis was induced by heparin sodium @ 2 IU/g.b.wt, s/c, twice a day daily for 35 days. After induction of osteoporosis, effect on hepatorenal functions of turmeric nano-formulation given@ 20 mg/kg, po, daily for 20 days, was assessed before and after the treatment by determining effect on AST, ALT, creatinine and BUN level in serum. There was no alteration in level of serum ALT, AST, creatinine and blood urea nitrogen before and after turmeric nano-formulation treatment for 20 days @ 20 mg/kg, in osteoporotic rats. There were no changes in morphological characteristics and organs weight of liver and kidney after treatment with turmeric nano-formulation. It is concluded from the study that turmeric nano-formulation @ 20 mg/kg, bwt, did not produce any toxic effect on hepatorenal function in osteoporotic rats.
