Abstract

Himachal Pradesh, situated in the Western Himalayas, has a vast reserve of natural resources and a rich history of traditional medicine. The objective of the present study was to study the anticancer potential of the plants of Himachal Pradesh. Total eight plant samples were collected and ethanolic (70 %) plant extracts were prepared and lyophilized. Sulforhodamine B assay was performed for cytotoxicity evaluation of plant extracts against LC-540 Leydig Cell Testicular Tumor cell line (rats) at various concentration levels (20, 50, 100 and 200 μgg/ml) and at different exposure time (24, 48, 72 h). Among all the eight extracts, the maximum cytotoxicity was exhibited by Bergenia ciliata rhizome extract with 55.48 α 3.22 % cytotoxicity, followed by Psidium guajava (50.01 α 1.27). More studies are required to isolate the active phyto-constituents present in Bergenia ciliata rhizome extract and validation of its anticancer effect in vivo model.
