Evaporation/Reference Evapotranspiration Estimation Information System (EEIS) is an information system developed in MATLAB© environment for estimation of daily evaporation/reference evapotranspiration using measured meteorological parameters. The EEIS estimates evaporation from energy balance method, aerodynamic method, combination (Penman) method, Priestley-Taylor method and Stephens and Stewart method. Reference evapotranspiration is estimated using FAO Penman-Monteith method. It also helps to build a simpler one layer Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model if sufficient target data are available. Application of EEIS to demonstrate its capabilities to estimate daily evaporation at Karnal, Haryana is also discussed. As current version of EEIS (Version 1.0) does not have Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) module, MLR model discussed here was developed outside EEIS framework and compared with ANN and climate-based methods. Results of case study show that EEIS is a good evaporation estimation tool. It was also found that ANN and MLR could be employed successfully in modeling evaporation/reference evapotranspiration process.
