Educational Upliftment of Gujjar and Gaddi Tribe of Chamba District in Himachal Pradesh: A Study

This study investigates the educational status and challenges faced by the Gujjar and Gaddi tribes of Himachal Pradesh, with a focus on accessibility, school infrastructure, and the effectiveness of government schemes. Himachal Pradesh's tribal population, though only 5.71% of the state's total, is dispersed across difficult terrains, which limits access to quality education. The paper draws on primary data collected from 75 respondents and secondary sources such as Census 2011 and tribal statistics. It examines issues like proximity to schools, the type of educational institutions attended, and satisfaction with facilities, awareness of government schemes, and whether children are benefiting from these programs. Findings indicate that while most children have access to schools within 2 km and benefit from government schemes, significant gaps remain in infrastructure quality and awareness. The paper concludes with recommendations for improving educational outcomes through targeted interventions and enhanced outreach in tribal regions.
