Building library resources and professional skills in academic libraries of Odisha: A study

The skill development has become an important aspect of library professionals for excelling all the services, functions and activities of library and information centers. Building library resources is so crucial to augment the strength, standard, and potential of a library to satisfy the multifarious information needs and seeking behavior of users' community. Hence, building and managing information resources, impartaing training to library professionals, enhancing professional competencies are very much essential not only to upgrade the library and information centres but also to meet the information demands of users of the current generation. This paper examines various facets of collection building and development of technical competencies of library and information professionals and the status of academic libraries in Orissa with some constructive recommendations.
