Abstract

The study comprehends the trends in web citations within the DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Technology (DJLIT) from 2012 to 2021. The study examines the utilization and impact of web citations in the journal while identifying notable changes or patterns throughout the years. Employing a quantitative approach, the analysis focuses on the number of web citations and the types of sources referenced in DJLIT articles. The results demonstrate a consistent growth in the utilization of web citations within the journal over the investigated timeframe. Furthermore, the majority of these citations originate from scholarly sources. Additionally, the study reveals that 11,367 web references were employed in the article references. Furthermore, it highlights the distribution of authorship, with 46.27% of documents being authored by two individuals, followed by single-author documents (30.67%) and multiple-author documents (23.05%). Notably, the DESIDOC Journal enlisted the contributions of 1,207 authors who collectively produced 590 papers. Moreover, the study emphasizes the importance of establishing consistent citation practices and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of web sources. These considerations are crucial for maintaining the integrity and credibility of information. The outcome of the study offers valuable insights into the evolving trends in web citation practices within the library and information technology field.
