Abstract

The convergence of Information Retrieval (IR) and Global Search Interfaces (GSI) opens up new opportunities for the renovation and rebuilding of the Indian Knowledge System (IKS). Since ancient Indian knowledge, such as ancient texts, philosophies, scientific concepts, and culture, constitutes the world’s intellectual heritage, it is important to make it available and keep it safe. This article deals with the role of IR and GSI in remaking the documentation, organization, and retrieval of IKS, using ML methods to enable the automation of classification, semantic search, and contextual perception of various forms of knowledge. The changing nature of traditional knowledge calls for a revolution in how ancient wisdom is documented, curated, and made accessible to the world. The Research trend in IKS has increasingly turned towards digitalization, synergizing frontline technologies to leverage tradition in contemporary times. Through an interdisciplinary team of historians, technologists, and cultural specialist, the paper suggests means of successful digitization and indexing of centuries of wisdom. It gives insights into overcoming these issues through ML-based systems capable of making IKS searchable and preserving it. Finally, this study aims to contribute to the global resurgence of centuries-old Indian wisdom by updating its means of retrieval and its continuity for future years.
