Awareness and Usage of Parija Library Resources among PG LIS Students of Utkal University, Bhubaneswar: a Short Analysis

Abstract

This paper discusses awareness and usage of resources of the Parija Library among postgraduate students studying Library and Information Science (LIS) at Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. The study conducts a descriptive survey of visits to library resources, which includes a structured survey questionnaire and explores related items, such as frequency of visits, time spent on the resources, acceptable formats, methods of getting access, and level of satisfaction. The results indicate that 71 % of library usage is at least once a week, whereas 90 % use the facilities. The most explored medium is books (95 %) followed by the e-PG Pathshala platform (81 %) and online journals (52 %). The needs involved in academic studies and education stimulate 95 (%) of use, whereas research-based contributions contribute 48 %. Access to the Internet is predominant in accessing e-resources (76 %), although the majority access information through the library website as the primary medium of updates (62 %). Even though 62 % of students mention that they can receive all the necessary materials from the library, 38 % have some issues with the lack of materials. The study concludes that, in general, there is good use of print and electronic resources, reflecting the library's key role in supporting studies and research by the PG LIS students.
