Abstract

Library is the integral part of educational institution made to serve educational, cultural, research, recreational materials for the information needs of their users. Libraries are the places where the entire knowledge gathering takes place including intellectual and our cultural heritage. The collections possessed by the library are affected by various environmental factors. Many of us ignore the problem which ultimately reaches a crisis point leading to irreparable damage to various collections. It is empirical that custodian must take preservative steps rather than treating once damaged. The knowledge embodied in manuscripts is valuable but materials used for this purpose pose a real challenge. These manuscripts have evidence of facts, their accomplishments, thoughts, work they have done, theories and so on, which are essential for human development. These guide the younger generations for ages and must be saved for every upcoming generations. This article gives a brief outline of preservation methods to be adopted while preserving the manuscripts. Preventive measures must be applied with caution and cost effective manner.
