Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of transformational leadership style of a leader who exhibits on his subordinates that effect the organisational commitment of his employees in the IT industry of Delhi/NCR.

A total of 100 subjects participated in this study from different IT companies. Participants were told that the study was designed to collect information on the transformational leadership styles used by their managers and on commitment of employees in the IT sector. Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire and Organisational Commitment Questionnaire were used to assess the impact of transformational leadership on employee's affective commitment.

There are significant relations between transformational leadership style and organisational commitment. The findings support the suggestion in the literature that transformational leadership behaviour stimulate organisational commitment

There are several limitations that could be future research topics, such as small sample size, demographic characteristics of the participants. There is a question about the generalisability of these findings to other organisations.

This paper explores an aspect of leadership in the IT industry that is often neglected. It provides compelling evidence for the importance of continuing the efforts to understand the nature of the transformational leadership behaviours-commitment connection.
