Abstract

This article is a general review which surveys the distribution channels in the Indian non-life insurance industry and the trends that are visible after the liberalisation of the insurance industry with the entry of the private sector. Some new channels introduced in the recent past to improve the insurance penetration and help in the further spread and availability of insurance. The usefulness of each of the channels listed and the customer groups they are catering to have also been specified. The purpose of this study is to introduce the new incumbents to this space to the various alternatives available which is already known to the practitioner. We have also tried to map the progress of the distribution channel network and the trend it is displaying at present and the challenges likely to be faced by the insurance companies in future
