Plagiarism is a universal threat in the area of research and academics and it is increasing day by day among students, which leads to loss of genuine work. Many of the students are copying the text from other sources to complete their assignments. The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship of moral values, religious beliefs and dedication with plagiarism outcome behaviour among scholars. The selected factors support or dampen the plagiarism behaviour among scholars.
In this study, data were collected through a well-structured questionnaire from 344 students pursuing graduation and graduates of Indian universities. The SPSS was used for Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM)-Amos was used to measure the relationship between the variables and to conceptualise the model.
The empirical results, which rely on the five point Likert scale, measures the students’ emotions and intentions, thus validating this scale, and then a model was developed to check the interaction between various factors. Also, the fitness of the model by SEM using Amos was checked and the results show which of the constructs are having higher impact on the students’ intentions to plagiarise and their actual behavioural action towards the same.
In this study, some selected factors like moral values, religious beliefs and dedication of the students are considered for evaluating their plagiarism behaviour. This study is based entirely in the Indian context.
This study wishes to make significant contributions for universities and research in understanding the plagiarism behaviour and the effect of various factors on students’ plagiarism, so that the universities can discourage the plagiarism behaviour.
The current study aims to present the relationship of moral values, religious beliefs and dedication on plagiarism outcome behaviour among students in the Indian context. There are lots of studies on plagiarism but the results of this study will help to understand the plagiarism behaviour of Indian students.
