Abstract

(At present there is a pressing urge for bringing about qualitative improvement in the classroom process. The National Curriculum Frame Work 2005 has attached much importance on classroom process in view of its various qualitative dimensions. The investigators in course of their monitoring of the classroom process in the adopted primary schools have felt the need of providing inputs to the Primary School Teacher to streamline multi-grade teaching. The study was conducted in the direction and it intended to identify the specific needs required by the teachers to improve the quality of their classroom process in respect of classroom management, learning organisation, style of teaching and use of materials. The main guiding research question was, to what extent the guided practie help in improving the quality of teaching learning process in multi-grade context. The entire study was conducted in three phases. In the first phase the Investigators went to five class rooms of each of the 6 Schools using observation schedule to take down the events going on in the classrooms. They first verified the lesson plans prepared and used by the teachers in the classrooms. They identified the strength and weaknesses of the classroom management process by the teachers. In the second phase the teachers prepared lesson plan under the guidance of the Investigators with due focus on the following aspects. 1. Selection of classes and clubbing, 2. Selection of content, 3. Specification of Objectives 4. Selection of TLM for classroom use, 5. Classroom arrangement, 6. Teachers movement plan for balancing between engagement time and waiting time, 7. Learning Organisation, 8. Task for engaging the students, 9. Classroom questioning, 10. Group work, peer assisted learning and teacher guided learning 11. Scope for correction, 12. Evaluation Questions.
