The present study was conducted to find out the status of guidance and counselling programme running in various secondary/senior secondary schools under Directorate of Education, Delhi. A self-constructed questionnaire was administered to various EVGC's (Educational Vocational Guidance Counsellors) appointed in schools to obtain information regarding the availability of various resources; various duties performed, difficulties faced, their perception regarding major problems faced by the students and effectiveness of guidance services provided by them. The results showed that all the basic resources were available with most of the EVGC's and they performed their duties efficiently inspite of various hindrances like shortage of time and overburden of work. However all the EVGC's at their personal level tried to provide guidance and counselling services to maximum number of students effectively. Thus the findings of the present study have clear implications for all those concerned with providing guidance and counselling services in government schools to improve them for providing maximum benefit to students.
