We live in the world of differences. These differences become evident to us in every aspect of life right from childhood. Still we find it difficult to interact with individuals who are differently-able. Even as adults we experience discomfort when we have to interact with an individual with special needs. The situation is more difficult with young children. The purpose of this paper is to bridge the gap between the so called ‘normal’ society and the ‘disabled’ society. This paper tries to touch upon issues related to social inclusion of individuals with special needs. It discusses strategies for general education teachers to help children develop social skills in interacting with individuals who are differently-able. Empowering young individuals in these skills will help us to build a humane society which accepts every individual as its own.
