Academic Achievement of Children with Normal Hearing Sensitivity and Children with Otitis Media with Mild and Moderate Conductive Hearing Impairment

Abstract

A study of titled, “A Comparative Study of Academic Achievement of Children with Normal Hearing Sensitivity and Children with Otitis Media with Mild and Moderate Conductive Hearing Impairment” was undertaken to find out if there is a significant difference in the academic achievement of the children with normal hearing sensitivity and the children having mild and moderate conductive hearing impairment. A sample of 45 students (15-Std 1, 15 –Std 2 and 15- Std 3) having mild hearing loss, moderate hearing loss and with normal hearing sensitivity from each standard was taken. Pure tone Audiometry was done to categorize these children and in order to assess the academic achievement of these children, their report cards were collected from the respective class teachers. The data was analyzed by using ANOVA and t- test. Results indicated that in Std 1 there is no significant difference in the academic achievement of the children with normal hearing sensitivity and the children having mild and moderate conductive hearing impairment whereas, in Std 2 and Std 3 there is a significant difference in the academic achievement of children with normal hearing sensitivity and the children having mild and moderate conductive hearing impairment.
