Effects of Cognitive-Behavioural Intervention for the Children With Reading Disabilities

Abstract

Studies attempt to find out the effects of Cognitive behaviour Intervention (CBI) on oral reading and comprehension children with reading disabilities. Cognitive behaviour functions were measured using 18 tests. The study followed A1-BC-A2—follow up single case design. Thirty sessions of Cognitive - behavioural Intervention included 15 sessions for oral reading like, drill and practice, fading, voice closing, sound blending, organization, modeling, word networking etc. And 15 sessions of reading comprehension included self-evaluation, mirror practice, self-tutoring, self-evaluation, self-imagery, self-instruction, asking, summarizing, elaboration, and so on. The study indicated that CBI is an effective method to enhance the reading skill of the participants both for oral reading and reading comprehension. From the study a positive relationship between the conduct problem and reading disabilities has also found dramatically. Apart from improving reading, CBI may helps to reduce the conduct problem of children with reading disabilities and can enhance their cognitive skills of children with reading disabilities.
