Abstract

Teachers mould the lives of hundreds of students. Teacher motivation is very important for successful teaching since if a teacher is highly motivated then she/he can make even a less capable student to perform well. On the other hand a teacher with low levels of motivation can make even the most capable student disinterested and bored in that particular subject, as a result effecting the student’s performance. It is imperative that the classroom atmosphere fosters learning and does not lead to boredom, lethargy and stress. If a teacher feels the classroom as a safe, healthy, supportive place with resources and facilities for teaching, then motivation will be high. Such teacher tends to participate positively in the process of management, administration, and the overall improvement of the school. In this paper the mechanics of motivation and strategies for improving teacher motivation are discussed.
