Abstract

The Thesaurofacet is a combination of a faceted classification scheme and a thesaurus. The novel feature of the system is that it is integrating the classification schedule with the thesaurus, thus giving advantages of both the systems. The terms or descriptors are appearing in the thesaurus portion and the schedule part. In the schedule the term is displayed in the most appropriate facet and hierarchy and the thesaurus supplements this information by indicating the alternative hierarchies. The thesaurus controls the word form and gives an standardized vocabulary to an indexer. This paper is a part of thesis and an effort to give the noble feature of thesaurofacet in the Soil Science. The methodology of application of the Thesaurofacet in pre coordinate and post coordinate system is discussed. For compilation of the Thesaurofacet, the THES module of the CDS/ISIS has been used with slight modifications for the compilation of the Thesaurofacet.
