Abstract

The study deals with the Public libraries in India as well as tries to highlight the public library system in the North East Region. The study deals with Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation's (RRRLF) role in the development of public libraries. As the library legislation is widely recognized as a helpful means for the establishment and development of public libraries as it provides the smooth financial support for the proper functioning of the libraries. The paper deals with the present status of public libraries in internet environment. The public library services should be re-engineered to meet the changing electronic environment. The paper also discusses about the need of re-engineering public library services, and presents scenario of public library in Mizoram and role of Young Mizo Association in public library development.
