Open Educational Resources in India: A Study of NPTEL and its Usage

Abstract

The paper aims to provide an overview of development of Online Information Resources (OER) in India with special reference to National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL). The study also investigates undergraduate students’ usage and attitudes towards NPTEL video lectures in the field of Ocean engineering. A total of 114 students from the Department of Ship Technology, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Cochin participated in the survey and the results indicated that students used NPTEL at least once in a week mainly for supplementing their class room learning. The analysis revealed that the contents were very relevant to their course and they were satisfied with NPTEL videos and contents.
