Abstract

Regionalism, as a literary movement, has always created a debait in the field of literary thoery of criticism since its appearance. In hindi Literature this movement got prominance with the works of Phanishwar nath Renu whose works were branded as representative of regionalism at movement. In this article it is argued that the criterea behind this type of classification is more of acertain type of Literary attitude based on nationalism than the essence of Literature which is not only international and global in nature but also plural, Universal and infinite. The Literary Criticism based on plurality of expression hardly leaves any place for such nomenclature which at times becomes derogatory. Moreover we have tried to draw a link between particular sign system which create Literature and our existance which is Universal. If we place our Literary conciousness in the broader spectrum of time and space we have to concede that what is local, becomes regional, what is regional becomes national, what is national becomes international, what is international become global, what is global becomes universal and what is universal that is infinite. Similarly an individual or specific literary consciousness amd Linguistic, manifestation try to attain the abstractions in our existence.
