The essay analysis the role of the market forces in accelerating the pace of globalization of over the part two hundred years. The impact of social forces such as urbanization, industrialization, feminism, migration and the breakdown of agrarian communities which have affected language and literature are also examined in detail. The author has analysed how Hindi must respond to the challenges posed by the changing social, economic, scenario to maintain its, relevance in modern society. The global presence of Hindi as a language taught at Universities across the world and as a medium of expression among migrant Indians in acknowledged and the writer has observed that Hindi must be prepared to go global if it seeks to make it to the list of universal languages approved by the U.N.
